Time flies when you are having fun…

…Time does seem to go quicker and quicker these days but this last year has been the fastest yet!  I am wondering whether the old saying “time flies when you are having fun” means my first year of marriage must have been a blast then!!  Well, I can truly say it has been action packed and I can hardly believe one year has gone by…  Do I qualify for a paper or cotton prize?!  Hmmm the diamond anniversary is still some way off but at this rate I should be adorned in no time! Ha ha!

We haven’t done too badly… we are still speaking, sleeping in the same bed and have firmly established who does which tasks…erhmm errhmmm!  Team work being the name of the game!  I won’t pretend it has been one continuous twelve month honeymoon.. oh no.. we have taken the roof off a few times… if only the Maldives could have gone on forever!

Marriage is as successful as the effort you put in.  It is all about finding the balance between the elements of each other and the relationship, for they are all at play.  Sometimes as best friends we earth each other when one of us is out of sorts, at other times we are in transition with our own life’s and floating in the air in our own directions.  This is fine unless the tension mounts when trying to re-connect or in insuring one or other is not left feeling unappreciated or even not present in the moment.  By that last point I mean you are physically present but you are emotionally attached to a piece of electronic equipment and otherwise engaged else where!  Oh the powers of modern technology these days!

However, when any of these factors happen we just need to come back to a calm warm balanced tide of water.  Still fluid and ever changing but centred and sometimes grounded by the shore to rest and take stock before setting sail again.  With the right balance and commitment we are usually equipped to take on the passing storms life can sometimes throw at us and we will survive to carry on sailing through marriage for another day with wind in our sails and radiance lighting our path.

It is also very important to remain healthy and breathe in our own air, to never remain still or stagnant but fresh and strong, remaining as independent people.  For we may be united but like “the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadows”.  (Kahlil Gibran).

Like fire crackers we have fuses and blow outs but then comes the passion and love, an eternal flame continues to burn.  When all the elements are working in unison we are a force to be reckoned with and the dynamics of this bond have allowed us to achieve a great deal together this year, from work to home, health, stability, peace and unity to a new and exciting life as husband and wife.  Life is different than it was before and it is certainly for the better.  Saying “Yes” was one of the scariest decisions I have ever made but I am glad to have taken the plunge.  Where are we sailing to this next year I wonder?!

Today we are remembering the incredible journey we went on a year ago from Australia to the UK to Ibiza to seal our hearts and souls together and share this magic with our family and friends.  To each and every one of you, all of those who could not make it and to all of you we have since met and are yet still to know some important words to consider:

“The Greatest wisdom is in simplicity, love, respect, tolerance, sharing, gratitude, forgiveness.  It is not complex or elaborate.  All you need is within you.  Find your heart, and you will find your way.”
